What to pack for Caraíva (and what to leave behind)
Sandy streets, a canoe crossing and days outdoors: a useful packing guide for a lighter arrival.

Packing matters when visiting Caraíva. The village has sandy streets and arrival generally involves crossing the river by canoe. Travelling light makes a difference.
1. Take luggage you can carry
A backpack, light suitcase or easy-to-lift bag is more convenient than heavy luggage. Small suitcase wheels do not roll easily on sand. Ask about local luggage help if you need it.
2. Think about footwear
Comfortable sandals and flip-flops suit much of village life. You do not have to avoid sneakers entirely: they may be helpful for parts of your journey or particular walks.
3. Dress for outdoor days
Pack breathable clothing, swimwear, a hat and sun protection. Consider a light rain layer and a small waterproof bag depending on the forecast.
4. Keep essentials close for the crossing
Carry documents, phone, money and travel contacts somewhere accessible. Save your accommodation details offline, too.
5. Respect your surroundings
A reusable water bottle and careful waste disposal help protect the river, sea and sandy paths that are part of everyday life here.
